88X Initiative Enters Active Development
Share
The Robotic Development and Control Agency has confirmed the existence of Project 88X, a newly commissioned unit designed to address what officials refer to as “the continuing Anomaly threat.”
While the RDCA has declined to release specific technical specifications, an internal bulletin obtained by the Digestdescribes 88X as an advanced pursuit model capable of operating across every district, tunnel, and uncharted zone of the Wilds. Sources indicate the unit is equipped with adaptive tracking algorithms, high-output propulsion, and an autonomous engagement protocol authorizing “detain, disable, or terminate” measures depending on the assessed threat level.
RDCA representatives confirmed that there is currently only one operational 88X unit. They stated this is to ensure “focused evaluation” during its early field trials, though they did not comment on whether additional units are planned.
Spokespersons assure the public that 88X’s deployment will be “strictly regulated and entirely in service of citizen safety.” When pressed for details on oversight, RDCA representatives cited ongoing security reviews.
Unofficial reports from maintenance crews near The Nest suggest the project’s early prototypes have already been tested in controlled environments, though no public demonstrations are planned. Residents are reminded to cooperate fully with any official patrols and to immediately report suspicious activity through approved channels.
Some observers have quietly noted that when a system is given the power to decide in the moment whether to capture or to kill, the line between protection and destruction can grow thin. The RDCA maintains that safeguards are in place, but history has shown that new tools often find uses beyond their original intent. Citizens may rest easier knowing that those decisions will be made with the utmost care—if such care remains possible in the heat of pursuit.
The official RDCA stance is, “Anomalies adapt. So must we.”
Still, there is a growing question whispered in the streets—when will this all come to an end? Forager City has been a different place these past few months.Open streets have hardened into checkpoints, neighbors vanish without word, and the simple patterns of daily life have been drowned out by the measured tread of patrols. Some call it "safety"...and the rest of us wonder what we’ve lost in its name.
